The cheapest way to optimise your system is to upgrade it. Upgrading means you get a faster, smoother running machine without the costs associated with buying a new computer. Below is a brief description of some of the most common items we upgrade. Other items are available.
Memory
Random Access Memory or RAM is a vital component within your PC. It stores information which needs to be quickly and easily accessed by the program you are running. More RAM = faster PC. We can supply RAM from 128mb up to 8gb depending on your machine. (It may be better to upgrade your motherboard and CPU when upgrading the RAM).
Processor
This is also known as the CPU (Central Processing Unit). The CPU is like the "brain" of the computer. A lot of people are mistaken when they say that a fast CPU means a fast computer. Faster processors mean that your programs will run smoother. New dual/tri/quad core technology means you can run more programs simultaneously. There are a lot of CPU's available, depending on the age of your machine and your motherboard type.
Hard Drives
The Hard Drive is where all files, programs and games are stored on your PC. The larger the hard drive, the more data you can store. Sizes range form 40gb to over 300gb so whether it's important documents, family photos or your favourite music, there is a hard drive to suit your needs.
Optical Drives
If you have an ordinary CD drive, you may want to upgrade to a CD re-writer drive or a DVD re-writer. With a CD or DVD re-writer drive, you can "burn" or create your owns discs, great for music or backing up your important documents. Our optical drives come with the relevant CD and DVD burning software included in the price.
Media Card Readers
Floppy discs are fast becoming a thing of the past. New storage devices such as the USB pen drive and memory cards are now the main way of saving data to be transferred from one PC to another, so if you need to bring work home with you, you can. We have both internal (fits into the computer) and external (plugs into a USB port on the computer) media card readers.
Graphics Card
For the best graphics, especially for gamers or web/graphics designers, a decent graphics card is a must. We upgrade for example PCI-E (Peripheral Control – Express) or AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) cards.
Fire Wire
Firewire or IEEE1394 is a card device that allows high speed data transfer to your PC from video devices and many other compatible devices at a rate of 400MB per second.
Motherboards
The motherboard is the basically the hub of the computer. The processor, RAM, disc drives etc are all connected to the motherboard. New tecnologies are being developed all the time and upgrading your motherboard allows to take advantage of these new components.
Sound Card
To listen to music, record with a microphone or setup your PC system to watch movies then a decent sound card is a good idea. Currently soundcards have an average 7.1 surround sound and DVD quality sound.
Power Supply
As you add more devices and components to your system, your power suppy unit (PSU) will be put under more pressure, it’s always better to have more power than you need.
